Building a box frame
Box-drawing characters (╔ ═ ╗ ║ ╚ ╝) were made for drawing tables in plain-text terminals. Copy the top and bottom pieces, put your text on the lines between them, and you have a frame for rules, menus or announcements.
Frames only line up in monospaced text (where every character is the same width), such as Discord code blocks. In normal text the right edge may look uneven — that’s expected.
- Copy a top borderPaste it on its own line.
- Write your contentAdd your lines of text underneath.
- Close itCopy the matching bottom border and paste it last.
Width: full-width borders are designed for desktop and messages. On a phone profile they may wrap; use a short divider there instead.
Accessibility: screen readers announce each line character. Avoid wrapping essential information (like rules) only inside decorative frames.
Questions, answered
How do I make the box line up on the right side?
Use a monospaced font — in Discord, wrap the box in triple backticks (```) to make a code block.
Why do block characters ▓▒░ look like boxes?
They are shade blocks from old computer character sets. Most modern fonts include them; very old devices may not.
Can I use borders in my Instagram bio?
Short ones, yes. Long borders eat into the bio character limit and often wrap on phones.
