How flipping works
There’s no “rotate” in Unicode, so upside-down text swaps each letter for a look-alike that happens to be upside down (a → ɐ, e → ǝ, t → ʇ) and then reverses the order, so it reads correctly when the phone is turned around.
Some letters have no good match. Capitals are the weakest — lowercase flips more cleanly.
- Type in lowercaseIt gives the cleanest flip.
- Pick flip, mirror or reverseMirror reads right-to-left like in a mirror.
- CopySend it as a fun message.
Not for names or important info: flipped text is a novelty. Screen readers read each look-alike character (“turned a, turned e…”), and search won’t find it.
Questions, answered
Why do some letters stay the same?
Letters like o, s, x and z look the same upside down.
Why do capitals look odd?
Unicode has fewer upside-down capitals, so some are approximations.
How do I flip it back?
Paste the flipped text into the box — flipping twice returns most letters to normal.
