How Discord treats symbols
- Text channel names become lowercase, and spaces turn into hyphens. Symbols and emoji are kept, so ┃・general works.
- Category names keep spaces and capitals, which makes them the place for wider headers like ━━ ✦ VOICE ✦ ━━.
- Usernames (since Discord’s 2023 username change) only allow lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Symbols belong in your display name and server nickname.
- Markdown: characters like * _ ~ and ` format text in messages. Wrap decorative text in a code block (```) if it misbehaves.
- Copy a prefixOr a ready-made channel name.
- Edit Channel → namePaste, then type the rest of the name.
- Stay consistentUse the same prefix across a category.
Searchability: heavy decoration makes channels harder to find with the quick switcher (Ctrl/⌘+K). Keep the real word right after the prefix.
Screen readers read channel prefixes on every visit. Short prefixes like ・ are much kinder than long dividers.

Text channel names can’t contain spaces. Use ・ or ︱ as visual separators instead.
